hippo tang diet

I am new to marine fish keeping. I have a hippo tang that spends his day picking at my live rock. When I offer him cyclopeze he seems to eat it. I put some dried algae in a clip and he ignores it and he ignores the pellet food. I would like to see him "fatten-up". Any suggestions?

new fish usually take a while to adjust to new surroundings. for my tangs i feed a mixture of foods flakes, pellets, frozen mysid seaweed. you can mix some foods up with garlic extract that really gets their attention for food.

as for seaweed on a clip... it might take sometime as they arent use to eating off of a clip... the transition will be faster if you have other fish that are already eating off a clip to show the regal tang but other than that give it some time and eventually it will become an eating machine.

My hippo tang eats almost anything frozen. I keep nori on a clip all day for them, and feed frozen mysis, brine, krill (chopped up), formula 2, prime reef, cyclop-eeze, emerald entree, plankton. I vary their diet as much as possible, and mine is pretty fat. I also soak the nori in vitamins about 3 times a week.

yes, you can get it at asian markets.... the other to maybe try is to rubberband nori sheets to the rock.... might be a bit more natural.

yeah just give him some time. Fish take time to adjust just like us in new situations. Make sure and feed him his algeas.
