I have been having trouble keep a hippo tang. the first one died of ich. I treated the tank for a week with Kent's RXP. I recently bought another one and now after a few days I noticed the white spots one this one. Can anbody help. Water par are good nit-0, ami- 0, phos-where high but now are normal.

Tangs are ick magnets. I have been lucky and have NEVER had ick on any of my tangs (some over 5years old).

When buy a tang try not to take it out of water (kind of nudge them into a container, and try to have as much water as possible.

Get them home SOON.

I float the bag in tank to equalize temp then put them into a bucket to drip acclimate ( I also put a few drops of Amquel into water for ammonia problems). I keep removing water from bucket to try to maintain same level. I also semi cover bucket to lower stress. After a few hours I remove most of water and put him into tank-- A Q-tank that is set-up for new arrivals. If problem you can always medicate the Q-tank. After a week or so he goes into main tank.

My main tank also has a cleaner shrimp in it too.

This has worked for me so far.

Please do me a favor and qt all new fish you get for a bare minium of 4 weeks for now on. Your be much happeir because your be preventing diseases from entering your tank again. Leave your main tank fishless for 3-4 weeks min. before adding more fish so the ich dies off.

QT is a very good idea
All of my tangs came from fellow reefers & were used to a tank
My 6"+ sailfin was too big for any QT I had, I have never seen ich on him.
Ditto for my 4-5" Yellow Tang
My Hippo was the smallest at 2", no ich at the other guys house, no ich at my house - then ich
I fed garlic & garlic soaked foods. It went away
He has been healthy ever since - 3" & he tries to bully my saifin for food
I keep cleaner shrimp in both tanks, also a good idea IMO

my hippo ive had over a year. kept on feeding him garlic with zoe zoecon and vitachem. he pulled out of it. you wont believe it but hes been with me the longest. i love him

I don't mean to sound stupid but where do you get garlic soaked fakes

you buy garlic guard and soak thier food in it i use formula one , formula two, mysis shrimp and cyclopeze. also i put in some formula one pellets to soak as well . i soak all my food now with those three main vitamins. i mix enough bowls for a week . put three bowls in the freezer and 4 bowls in the fridge. on the fourth day i bring down the other three frozen bowls and put them in the fridge.
