Hippocampus Erectus Sexing

I am in the process of ordering an Erectus seahorse pair, but I was informed that the company can guarantee male horses but not female, because it is possible for them to change sex to male. Can anyone validate this or give me advice on how to purchase these? Thanks.

Yes, they cannot guarantee female, since young males look female (without a pouch) and since there is evidence that seahorses do, in fact, change sex. However, if the seahorses are large and mature enough, they can be more sure of the gender. Where are you looking to purchase the seahorses? Dan and Abbie at www.seahorsesource.com are very honest and reputable, and should give you a good, straightforward answer about whatever stock you purchase from them.

Yes I am planning to go with that company. Dan actually informed me of the fact that they can change sex. He was very pleasant and informative. My seahorses arrive tuesday I ordered a pair and will keep you all posted. Thanks for the help.
