Hippocampus Kuda Seahorse at LFS

I have been looking into getting some seahorses. My LFS has a single specimen for sale, as the mate did not make it... The other specimen i believe is female, as it has no pouch, and has lived single for 3 weeks. This is a Kuda, and i was wondering if it ay be a good idea to buy this specimen and find her a male. I feel sad for the one gallon display she is in.

Thanks!

While I can appreciate your concern for the inadequate housing of this seahorse at your LFS, I don't think it would be a wise purchase.

Since it's "mate" died, you really have no idea what it died from. If it was sick, any pathogens could have been passed to the other seahorse - meaning that one might not make it either.

If you're truly interested in seahorses, your best option is to purchase true CAPTIVE BRED (not tank raised) seahorses from a reputable breeder.

Thanks for the info... I am not 100 percent sure if they are CB seahorses. He said the male "gagged" himself.

I would pass. It sucks to do, but it is the best thing.
