I got curious because my entire family asked me why I named my yellow TANG Dick. Get your minds out of the gutter and tell me why I might name this particular fish this name. I'll give you a hint: he was the very best our navy ever had and saved alot of lives.

This one?
Richard Hetherington O'Kane (February 2, 1911 â€"œ February 16, 1994) was a United States Navy submarine commander in World War II, who received a Medal of Honor for his service on the USS Tang (SS-306). Having also served on the near legendary Wahoo (SS-238), as Executive Officer (XO) and 'Approach Officer', he participated (directly) in more successful attacks on Japanese shipping than any other fighting submarine officer during the war.

Very good. I'm impressed. I didn't think anyone would get it this quick.Don't forget he also sank himself.

wow, that's way too much thinking for fish names. i just call all mine 'blue fish, yellow fish, red fish, pretty fish, ugly fish" it saves alot of brainpower. but fwiw, I think that was a cool story there.

I'm a history buff and even if you're not, the story of his career is a great read. It's more exciting than most action movies/books.

do they have an action movie/book about him? lol. I think all war heroes deserve at the very least a hollywood blockbuster in their memory.

Actually there are 2. One is a John Wayne movie and the other is "Run Silent Run Deep" which made a better book than movie. His superiors called him "brave and motivated" his fellow sub commanders just thought he was nuts.

of course the sub commanders would call him nuts, usually when more cowardly people see somebody going above and beyond, they appear nuts. I'm not a John Wayne fan at all but I'll try and find that book, I also enjoy history a bit (always my favorite subject in high school anyways).

Ya know, If ever I was going to be on a ship, serving my country, I'd like a ship called the Wahoo! Sounds fun don't it.

There's a non-fiction book called "Silent Victory" that tells the story of the subs in WW2. It's a little dry reading but it makes clear what those guys went through pretty clear and will make you wonder why they all weren't nuts.
