Hitch-hiker mantis ID?

Hi all,

I'm guessing I have a mantis, but dont see how it could be.

Last week I started hearing the occasional click -- sounded like my old pistol shrimp, but he died last year. Then a couple days ago a burrow appeared under a rock and today a rather large shell was pulled over the entrance like a burrow. From what I can read this sounds like a classic mantis.

Problem is the only thing I've added to the tank in months is a branch of frogspawn and a branch of hammer. Can't see where he could possibly have hid!

I keep watching the burrow, but cant seem to ever see him. Any way to lure him out and verify the ID?

Lotta waiting around at night with the flashlight might be the trick.

You could use one of the common DIY mantis traps. Just stick the opening to the mouth of his cave and put some bait in it. Come back in the morning and see if you have a mantis.

Ps if he's one of the bright green ones I'll take it.
