HitchHiker on my 6" Squamosa... & something else?

For Christmas my mother contacted the LFS and order me a colored Squamosa! Well it is a good sized clam at nearly 6". The LFS owner said it had expelled it's zoo-algae and as long as I fed him regularly he would eventually color up a lot under good lighting... Anyways - When I got it home I was looking it over and noticed a little scallop or something holding onto the underside of the shell. It was similar looking to a clam except only about a .5" in width. It wasn't symetrical - It was actually longer on one end... i guess it was attached with it's foot. I acclimated the clam as usual. I was gonig to take a picture today and ask all your opinions on it when I noticed it was GONE!!!
When I picked up the clam i did notice that there was a fuzzy white feather looking piece that was under the spot where the clam had been. It was colored at the end but look like cartlidge or something and was about 2" long? Any Ideas what this could have been - I think it came out of the clam?!

So the clam was bleached when you bought it? Not a good sign. Expelling SOME zooxanthellae is normal but if it had no coloration I would be concerned.

The "cartilage" is probably its foot. :)

well - It still was brown and white not completely void of color. I just meant it didn't any blues or purple or anything really bright... I still had color.

It is possible that you simply have a brown and whitish Squamosa. I do not think it is going to add any wonderfull colors to itself. Clams generally do not color up like coral. You may some improvement but nothing drastic.
