HOB Fuge with Canopy?

I have a 75 gal. tank with an Oak Canopy and I would like to add the large size Aqua Fuge HOB Refugium to my setup.

I am concerned that it will not fit with my Canopy. Has anyone experienced this before, made it work, had no problems, etc??

I did have to cut out a section to fit a skimmer once but it was only about 1.5", I think I would need to cut quite a bit more for this.

I would just like to get an idea before I order one.

Wouldn't the benefit of adding a refugium out-weigh the downside of potentially cutting your canopy? With a wood canopy, you always have the option of fixing anything you do to it (or at least taking it to someone that can fix wood) by replacing the cut sections with new boards.

You are correct if it were a smaller cut I would not hesitate.

I do have 4 40" VHO's mounted underneath it and I think the fuge with the light will stick up far enough where I would need to cut into the are the bulbs are mounted to. I do not know yet since I dont have it in my hands.

I have also thought about making some sort of prop for the lid to hold it open like a car hood. This would allow me to only open it 3/4 of the way and hopefully allow room for the fuge.

Just looking for ideas here.
