I have a 20 gallon tank with t8 lights and a zoo Med powerhead that shoots 145 gallons per hour. I'm looking for a hangover the back protein skimmer and a good hangover the back power filter please help anybody links please. I would really . like to stay away from a sump but I do have the space and my lights are gunna be swapped out soon too.

I like the eshopps hob skimmers, they are great for the money. Marineland or simular for the filter, although if you have live rock in the tank (20-30 #'s) you dont need the filter.

I've used a CPR backpack on a 30 gal with minimal issues. It does look more attractive with the surface skimmer box. This also catches any bubble leaks from the power head from getting into the main display. There are probably better skimmers out there, but i have this one and see no need to invest more money. What are you planning on keeping? If its primarily corals, I don't think you need the additional power filter. The live rock will provide plenty of biological filtration. And you shouldn't be feeding heavily enough to require mechanical filtration beyond the skimmer.

Cool ill look into that backpack im looking to have say 3 or 4 fish alot of rock some reefs and verts.
I Like sun coral, anemones, clowns and firefish..... Frogspawn.... Do clowns play with frogspwans. Plus id like a maroon and black and white clown . What would be a good match the maroon wont beat up. I know about getti ng one clown bigger than the other so its easier to establish. Im also looking into those comlact outer filter shells. Like compact sump for 7o bucks.... Better than the backback? BY THE WAY. Im trying to get by with out sump tank

I wouldn't keep two species of clowns in a tank that small. They'll beat the snot out of each other.

Really!? even when young? Well then no maroon for me.
but do you think I can get by without a sump if I have a good filter system

I don't have a sump on my 40 breeder, just the skimmer. I also have a refugium and Aquaclear power filter to hold more water volume. I have very happy anemones, fish and corals. Maybe one day I'll get a sump, but for now everything's doing great.

Ima get a fluval compact external filter. Plus a 300gph power head. But as for lights
I have 2 T8 one full spec and the other that deep blue. Both 15 watt. That good enough? if my corals are up off the ground and half way to the top of the tank they should be good right if not what size wat of metal hallide should I do on a 20 gallon tank

CPR Bakpaks are good skimmers (used one on a 40 gallon for several years). Make sure you get the overflow box if you go this route. Look into the AquaMaxx HOB as well (using one currently on a 28 gallon JBJ). It's a kick-butt skimmer.

Any LPS (that aren't NPS) or softies (that aren't NPS) are easy. LPS won't grow as fast as softies. Softies don't need to be fed as much as LPS so they might be a good place to start.
