HOB overflow Box Vs. Internal overflow box

Im thinking of replacing my old/scratched 75G tank w/ a new one in a couple of week. Im gonna add a 29G sump/fuge in the near future. I havn't decided that should i go with HOB or internal (drilled) overflow box. Here's my lil debate:

HOB Overflow
Pro: Smaller than the internal overflow box - More space in the tank
Con: More problems to concern about plumbing

Internal Overflow
Pro: Easier plumbing, no overflowing tanks problems to worry about
Con: Takes up too much space

I need inputs on this. Thanks

An internal overflow doesn't have to take up lots of space. You can get the 75, drill a hole in the back and use a "Calfo" horizontal overflow, or just use a skimmer box much like the ones on HOB overflows.

FWIW, A 30L makes a better sump than a 29G.

you forgot a pro for the internal box. its surface skimming properties! gets all that gunk off the waters surface

Internal and HOB both do that.

I would definetly go with internal. I'm sure you would have a little less space than have something go wrong and then not have a tank at all.

a HOB box surface skimms?
Of course. Why wouldn't it?

I somewhat know the HOB overflows might cause some overflow problems. Aren't there ways to fix those problems?
For one, get a good overflow. Like most things, there are good products and bad. A Lifereef overflow will run indefinitely without a problem.

checkout the first pic in the thread linked to my little red house. don't even know it's there it's so small and slim. very easy to make if you have access to a router and table/radial-arm saw

I am currently using a HOB overflow, I will never do it that way again. Im not saying that i have problems with it but just that the internal overflow is more reliable.

get a life reef if you do decide to go hob.Had one for over 2 years no problems.restarts on own and never loses siphon. As mentioned already definitley consider a 30L for your sump.

I think i'll go with a lifereef HOB then. Sounds like it's the perfect choice. I want to go with a 30L but i already a 29G at home so i guess im just gonna use that.
