HOB Overflow?

I am looking to get an HOB overflow for my 40 breeder. I have heard of people's overflow's not restarting after the power is shut off. I am looking for what brands will restart EVERY time after the pump is shut off. I also don't want to rely on an aqualifter or another pump just to restart the overflow that seems like a waste to me. What are some brands that I should be looking at?? Thanks.

I think they all have the potential to fail, if you dont want to deal with the aqualifter I would look into drilling the tank.

If set up properly and maintained, the chances of failure is rather slim. Just make sure u match the GPH rating of the return and overflow as close as possible. Regularly clean the U tube so flow isn't restricted. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to elevate the return pump, so in the rare case that siphon is lost, flooding is kept at a minimum

What about the Lifereef's? I don't think that they fail to restart is this correct?

I have a LifeReef on m 75, have had it for about 7 years now, it has never once failed to restart. If drilling isn't an option, it is the only HOB overflow that I would recommend.

Lifereef and Amiriacle are great overflows. The U-tube design, properly maintained with the proper flow have the lowest possibility of losing siphon. I ran one for many years, through many power outages and and learning how to maintain a tank and never had a failure;)

In fact that overflow made it another two years on a buddy's tank until he sold it and UPS broke it.
