HOB Skimmer recommendations

Looking for skimmer recommendations. Have a 55 gal tank with live rock, fish and a few mushrooms. Currently running a red sea prizm hang-on back skimmer but looking to upgrade. Have very little space underneath the tank for a skimmer since I have a 15 gal refugium and 3 gal auto-top off. Any recommendations for Hang-on-back skimmers or a small skimmer for underneath. Would prefer to not put the skimmer in the refugium as it is not set up for that and probably wouldn't fit (height wise). Thanks

the remora c would be an excellent skimmer for that size of tank

Remora Pro with Mag 5 would do the job well. The Remora gets a bad wrap at RC but it does the job. Mine pulls out a good cup of pretty nasty stuff every two days.

+1 on the Remora C. I have had one for a while and it was plug and play for the most part. There is a trick to make the unit quieter so if you get on send me a PM and I'll explain.

I use a Deltec MCE600 and it is the best HOB I've seen. I had a Remora Pro and a Bakpak prior to the Deltec and it is far more efficient and less intrusive since the pump is housed within the skimmer. Definitely check the dimensions of whatever skimmer you decide to go with. Tunze is another brand to consider. People say great things about their HOB skimmer, although I haven't used it myself.

IMO its the 1200 maxijet power head that gives the remora some scorn. But as you stated if the pump is replaced with the mag 5 it works really well.
