The top one is listed on liveaquaria under the divers den and is listed as a ''with caution'' species, in regards to reef safety. I think corals would be safe, but small shrimp and possibly small worms and brittlestars could become food for the fish. I would say both specimens are equal in regards to safety in the reef aquarium. I have the bottom species slotted to go into my 150g reef, when it is set up, fwiw.

The top one will grow to be around 2 ft long. It is only suitable for extremely large tanks. It will also become more aggressive and eat any small-medium sized fish. I believe it is Hologymnosus doliatus, a wrasse. It is definitely in the holo/hemigymnousus genus.

They also become very unattractive as adults.

I had a "candy cane" a few years back. It was four inches long (full size?), occasionally chased some smaller fish around, and I watched him eat a 5 inch bristle worm. I thought it would kill it either choking it down or once it got into its belly. Very cool!

Thanks for the ID and I can get a lot info for the candy cane hogfish as the 2nd picture . But the 1st picture not looks like a wrasse ( Hologymnosus doliatus ) . Sorry that I'm stupid thought that have a black dot on the gill area must be a hogfish ... :p
