Hole in the Bottom of My New Crocea ?

I have had a 5 inch blue Crocea in my tank for 9 months. He has done well, so recently I decided to get a couple more. I bought 2 small clams (1 tear drop Maxima and another Blue Crocea).. They are 2-3 inches. They are both showing signs of good health after 1 week.

Today, my small Crocea fell off the rocks I placed him on, so I decided to put him in the sand bed. As I lifted him, I noticed that he has a large hole in the bottom directly below his Inlet at the joint-muscle. Is he an eventual gonner? It's pretty big but he seems fine.... It almost looks like an inlet on the bottom.

Anyone experience this?

Maybe it was the bysall threads that broke off leaving a hole when they removed him from the LFS???

Can you take a picture? It sounds like it may be just the byssal opening. List all inhabitants of your tank.

Toadstool Leather, Med Crocea clam, Cleaner shrimp, Hippo tang, tomato clown, feather dusters, branch hammer, xenia, palythoa (brown and green), GSP, Zoanthids (fire/ice, nuclears), Kenya Tree, Blue Mushrooms, Super Man Mushrooms, Halimeda, Daisy Polyps, Tunicates, Sponge (Blue, White, Orange), Tunicate, Big Red Sea Squirt, Nassarius Snails, Zebra Hermits, Lawn Mower Blenny, Tear Drop Maxima, and The Suspect Blue Crocea

Here is a pic of the tank and one of the Clam. I don't want to flip him over and add more stress to the equation.

and I know that the hole showing is normal. It is a gaping hole directly beneath where my larger clam (that is doing real well) has a sealed and very strong tendon.

I'm curious to hear because my crocea has a hole all the way through as well.

I am not sure if this is normal or not. I have a feeling that the base broke away when the LFS was taking it from it's holding tank. The clam seems fine. I would really like some input on this from some people with experience. The hole is all the way through and pretty big on the bottom.

Looks normal to me. Keep an eye on the blenny. They are known to occasionally nip clam mantles.

Yes,
imagine taking your thumb and sticking it in the intake and then your index finger through the hole on the bottom...you could press your thumb and index finger tips together.

Happy to report, the hole is gone. ????? I am clueless why. My only guess is that the hole was left from the bysall threads being broken at LFS and then healed up to stick to something new. Unfortunatly he has wedged himself in between some rocks but the one thing I have learned in this hobby is once an invert/coral is happy---LEAVE IT ALONE.

He droped and old (foot ) or Bysall threads and grew a new one it happens time to time.

Came home yesterday and he was gutted and just a loose outline of what he was the day before.
