na he said I erased a price off the glass in one of his tanks. I was like yeah right then he said he had it on tape. I said let me see it he said oh we taped over it. I would keep it myself just incase but hey he isn't me. there was a rose anemone which I had 2 of at the time that were nice and his was ok looking but the tank said something like $35 bubble tip anemone. there were other bubble tips of course so I asked how much for that bubble tip and the guy said over $100 and I said oh nevermind or whatever . I was going to take it for the lower price but if it was higher I plain didn't want it. no problem and with the knowledge of the workers at that time who knows they may have said well it says the cheaper price so here you go. not my fault who he had working for him so this ummmm taliban guy made up the story. well taliban was the nick name some people gave him not me. thats the only name I know him by. if anyone wants to clear the name thing up thats cool feel free. he was always cool until then.
and if you must know I was once banned from johns store. way too much drama in this hobby don't you think?

I have always known him as the big sweaty italian guy... But I guess he is greek.

The only fish I bought from there is a powder brown tang for my 210. HE STILL HAS ICH. All other fish are perfectly healthy. But this one never kicked it. I know these fish are ich sensitive but is there a quick way to get him healthy again?

mike I wasn't talking about nick as taliban it was a skinny younger kid.
good luck with the ich. natural predators like neon gobies or cleaner shrimp may help if you don't already have them. gobies may be better since the fish won't have to go to the same location every time back in the rocks to get cleaned. fish are all over the place.

So after all PetMart is still selling un healthy fish, that doesnt suprise me the least!!! great experiment angelsil !!!!:D I would say positive things about this location if they said something like there going to clean things up and make sure thier livestock is healthy and stride to gain the confidence of thier customers back. But it continues to be the same thing over and over again. All I hear is that the fish are unhealthy and they could care less about you if you dont buy nothing.Therefor how can anyone say positive feedback about this place, they earned there own reputation and doing nothing to try and fix it or at least it seems that way. Most of us can say they have NO pitty for a place like that, Im in business for myself and I KNOW customer service is a big part of runnung a successful business. The whole PetMart gang or maybe I should say this one particular person (with multiple voices) should try a suggestion box to improve that store. Than maybe just maybe people would not bash and start shopping thier with confidence!!!. Just my opinion :D

Im done arguing with these people, but it does make for some interesting reading!!!!

I am not upset about the ad: boys will be boys. This post is clearly not the owner trying to solicit new business. More likely a young kid, proud of his first job. As well he should be. Still a cool place to work â€"œ lots of marine and freshwater fish!

I shop Pet mart on Busch because it is close to me, but when I compared prices on tanks, live rock, sea salt and carbon, it was worth to drive past Apollo Beach to pick them up at Life Oceanic. Every time I am in Pet Mart, I say something about the pile of **** in the Ferret cages â€"œ they tell me they pick it up daily, but my daughter’s two ferrets were never that messy. On the other hand, their African cichlid display with Red parrots (about 2 months ago), made me think about having one of those biotope displays.

One fish died? Hardly scientific.

Did I indicate it was a scientific experiment? No, I did not, so please don't try to put words there that didn't exist. I have neither the time nor resources (or the desire) to do a scientific experiment to determine the hardiness of their livestock. It was a personal experiment for my own benefit and nothing more.

I was more discouraged by the fact of how the fish was sold to me (and that it was sold at all) than the fish dying. Again, feel free to contact me by PM for specifics rather than jumping to conclusions here and taking my words out of context.

Amen!!!!!:D angelsil...I was just typing something like that!!!

Certainly sounds like a scientific conclusion. Let’s look at the words that are there:

“As an experiment, I did recently purchase a fish at PetMart just to see if it really was all you defenders claim. I'm willing to give a place a 2nd chance. Let's just say the experiment failed and I'm reasonably confident it had nothing to do with my setup (other than jumpers I have lost very, very few fish) and a lot more to do with the fact that the fish was poorly cared for at the store and sold to me knowing it was doomed.”

In the scientific method, an experiment (Latin: ex-+-periri, "of (or from) trying"), is a set of actions and observations, performed in the context of solving a particular problem or question, to support or falsify a hypothesis or research concerning phenomena. The experiment is a cornerstone in the empirical approach to acquiring deeper knowledge about the physical world.
Please define your experiment more carefully, so that others might replicate your conclusions. What are your dependant and independent variables? Also please express your confidence as a correlation co-efficient based on numerous, repeatable observations. Please elaborate on your conclusions. What is “poorly cared” for â€"œ do you suspect wild harvesting with poisons, for example? How do you know they knew the fish was doomed â€"œ did you see it eat? Why would they sell a doomed fish?

I am not picking on you. My point is simple â€"œ one dead fish does not a bad store make.

I think the store is messy. I do not know if the fish or tanks are unhealthy. Nature is often messy. Scrupulously clean tanks do not mean the staff doesn’t care â€"œ but it may mean the staff is paying attention.

What part of 'PM me for details' is unclear? Yet, no message from you is in my box. The experiment was for my own benefit to answer, for myself a "particular problem or question" as you stated.

I will be happy to answer all your questions privately, as the mods have requested we do with such matters.

I never said 1 dead fish makes a bad store, either. Again with the jumping to conclusions.

You do not have to buy a fish to determine if its healthy or not. When I was just in Busch Petmart (and this experience was no different from the last few times I was there), there were dead fish in the tanks and half the tangs were covered in ich. They had a large number of clown tangs that were all torn up, as were most of their ocellaris clowns. I did see a few really pretty midas blennies however they were at the bargain basement price of $70 a pop.

Their coral selection reminded me of some of the tank pictures I've seen on reefcentral in threads showing what a few days without power can do to a tank.

Ill have to agree with everyone here

Ill have to agree with everyone here

I think the situation is getting worse at petmart. I had to go there yesterday to get water (I know im taking risk here) and the store was horrible. wet floors, smells like someone shatted behind the tanks, an almost dead bluespot jawfish, saltwater hose laying on the floor for someone to trip on. Everything is dirty.
I hope that the "greek guy" or SRT4 or someone that works there actually browse this board so they know their store sucks. Maybe they will do something about it. They have changed the store around a little for dry goods which does look better. But, have you seen the frozen food section? CMON are you kidding me. The livestock section is bad and coral.. I wont even go there.

I recently was there a few weeks before and overheard a worker telling a customer that had an macroalgae issue to stop doing water changes and to turn his protien skimmer off for a week.
What he should have said was this is part of the normal cycling process...How long has the tank been up... or check your params... check your bulbs... what type of lighting...blah....blah... Is it just me or is it getting worse?

I personally always enjoyed seeing the power strips hanging over open tanks, or the frozen food cooler with a styrofoam lid to replace the broken door

hey BILLYFSU... GO CANES!!

had to throw that in ther... I saw those clown triggers. there were 30-40 squeezed into a 20 gallon tank. but on the flip side I got a Naso from them 2 yrs ago and she is as happy as can be. Im surprised there is another thread like this going on. this issue is really old and dead..

Thanks amheck that is one awsome coral I have to get in my tank!!!! :D

WOW TAMike that is BAD actually more like HORRIBLE

?

?

It seems that everytime Petmarts owners/employees/contractors try to post an advertisement for them...they get more bad publicity from the replies than they get from the original posted advertisement.

You would think they would have learned by now to just spend time improving their store rather than gimmicky advertisements.
