New Light!

The big part of this is, they come with an electronic ballast, not the old magnetic ones. I'm going to be the first one to dive in I think. Just have to convince the CFO.

Is that a good brand? Didn't they have problems before with their systems burning out or catching fire? The lighting power is impressive though.

They did, but that was with their old magnetic ballasts. They upgraded to electronic to fix that. Someone else bought one of the new ones on nano-reef but hasen't received it yet. I've been pretty unhappy with the output of my Viper and this might be the cure.

What problems do you have with the viper?

Don't get me wrong that fixture looks sweet. I wouldn't mind putting that over my 10 gallon. Plus that price can't be beat. But I don't see the point of putting a 20K bulb when you are also running actincs on that system.

I mean, its fine but it would really be better over a smaller tank. My tank is 23" tall and the light isn't intense enough to really penetrate. Also bulbs don't really show color on that like they do on electronic ballasts. I've tried two different 14K bulbs and I have a 20K on the way now. I also wondered about using a 20K with actinics on that Odyssea fixture. It would be sweet with a reeflux 12K with actinics!

I'm a phoenix 14K fan myself but reeflux 12K sounds better since it has the actinics.

I have the 36" fixture..... after running it for 3 days, the PC actinics stopped working, changed the ballast, 2 weeks later, PC blew again. Oddyssea suck. don't waste your money.
