Well I had a maxijet 1200 hanging around from my old skimmer (which is currently for sale in another thread) and I saw that the ecomod impellars at the critter were 50% off. I just recently started to add SPS to my tank as I finally was able to upgrade my skimmer and lights after selling a lot of softie frags and saving my pennies. I figured that more flow=good for SPS (something i have heard a lot on SPS forum topics) so i decided to try it. Previously I had a korilia 4 and a mag 5 returm pump for flow. now i have the modded maxijet and the k4 pointed at each other a the front of the tank near the top. The surface movement is great! I have very good polyp extension on my sps and even my xenia have adapted to the flow after just 3 days however I noticed my frogspawn is not opening all the way anymore. Will this hurt my growth and health of my frogspawn?

The flow is very random and everything sways in all directions. Even if it does slow down growth I am not sure I will do anything about it as my water has never been clearer and my sps that I have had for about 4 months seem to be growing by the day! It is only opening about 1/2 to 2/3 of what it was before.

Wow! Very cool on the maximod.

Not sure about your frogspawn, though. I can say that mine certainly didn't like being in the direct line of fire from my K4. I would move it if you could, but I would think it would still be fine as long as no tissue is being ripped off.

Just my opinion, tho. :)

no tissue being ripped off and I think the flow has clamed down a bit now, not sure why. Thanks for the input, the sps are loving the flow!

sps love flow. my tanks has about 20x per hour turnover. that said, I ahve a massive frogspawn and hammer. they both have a good gentle wave to them. they do like a moderate indirect flow.
