home networking question (new Apex unit)

i setup my new apex lite this week and so far the thing is running great. after playing with outlets and settings and getting all that figured out, i figured id give the net part of it a shot. After checking out the forum here, i was a little intimidated given the fact that i know next to nothing about networking stuff. Much to my surprise, after a little reading of the unofficial users guide, i had everything setup in under an hour. Currently the apex is connected to my router via a ethernet cable (dont have a gaming adapter yet). I can log into the apex from the web (local network and outside network), downloaded the aquanotes program to my iphone, and got the email alerts working as well.

Problem is that when I connect the apex to the network it basically shuts down everything else. Im using a linksys wrt54gs router with a ps3, a 360, and my mac plugged into the back, and at any given time theres an ipad, one or two iphones and a laptop on the wifi. Everything generally runs fine (ie: can stream netflix from the xbox, while surfing the web from the ipad and downloading something on the laptop). Once i plug the apex into the system i can access it just fine, but then the rest of the connections only work intermittently if at all. As soon as I unplug the apex, everything works fine again. Could this be a problem with my router? Could i have some of the settings incorrect? I've tried every combination of devices that I could, and everything works until the apex is plugged in.

This may not be the best place to ask this question, as i dont think its a problem with the apex itself, i just figured theres a lot of people here that have these things working harmoniously with their setups so someone may be able to give me some advice. Thanks!!

The first thing that comes to mind is that you might have an IP address conflict between the Apex and another network device. I'm assuming that you have assigned a static IP address to the Apex; in your router's management web pages, there may be a page that lists all dynamically-assigned addresses for you to easily check. Make sure that the Apex does not have the same address as another device.

I assigned the apex a static ip. Followed what the guide said and gave it a .50 where the router starts at .100. I checked on the iPad and one of the iPhones and they were given .101 and .102 respectively. It seems like the router is assigning ips above 100 so the 50 should be clear. I'm just confused because what I've been reading is that these routers are supposed to be capable of handling a bunch of devices
