homemade fish trap

I am in the process of catching a flame hawk. I have seen homemade fish traps here where people cut off the top of a 2 liter plastic bottle and inverting it so the fish can swim in but can't get out. My question is does any 2 liter bottle work? Should I get a 2 liter of coke, take off the lable and then soak the plastic bottle in vinegar then put it in? Do I have to worry about glue from the lable? Thanks for the help.

I tried it for like 2 weeks and only caught hermits. finally the fish was out in the open and I did a sneak attack and got him....I would just leave the net in your tank awile untill the fish get used to it. Then during feeding time try to catch him. Oh yea I would also use two nets....

I tried to catch my flame hawk using the net method before. That fish is too smart, I had to remove all the rock from a 200g tank just to catch that little %$#$@#.
Good luck though.

You can make a much better fish trap using one of those plastic "kritter Keepers" that you can find at most pet stores, some string, a small length of rigid airline tubing and a rubber band.

What does that look like Jon? Zooid is right that little fish is fast and pretty darn smart. You can tell it is watching me.

I apologize for the horrible paint drawing, but I couldnt find anything on the net remotely close to a picture, so here is!

Yep I have one rehnberg, similar to what Jon is talking about. sus is going to be borrowing it, but you are welcome to gab it from him when he is done with it.

Stugray I am going to take you up on that unless I can catch him before that. Can I get it Wednesday? Thanks for the offer Spleify, Stu is closer to me.
