Homemade food

"Umm fish?"

Hey! I just made up a new batch of the homemade food that I feed my tanks, but wound up with a lot more than I usually make. Would anyone be interested in buying my excess? If so, I can run out and get bags tomorrow, freeze it, and it would be ready starting Tuesday.

Ingredients (in no particular order): Spirulina, Selcon, spinach, nori, dulse, shrimp (lots of shrimp), squid, oysters, tuna, cod, swordfish, clam, and probably more that I've forgotten. There was also one whole fish that I put in, but can't remember the name. I'll post it when I do. All bought at Whole Foods, for what that's worth. All ingredients blendered to be as close to a liquid as possible.

I feed it to my fish in little frozen chunks. They bite off what they want and the rest feeds my corals and the clean-up crew has an easy time with the rest as it thaws to really small-sized bits.

I don't have a price yet, because I haven't seen what kind of bags I can get. This is mainly to judge interest and whether it's worthwhile for me to go buy bags instead of working in the morning. :)

So here's the deal. As an example, Rod uses 6 x 8.75" (52.5 sq in.) bags for his normal-sized food. I got the 9 x 12" bags (108 sq. in.). They each have 6 ladles-full, which is a hefty load of food. I'd like to get $15/each for them, as that will just about cover my costs for the food.

By the way, I'm not trying to compare these to Rod's Food as his food really rocks! I still buy it myself, just to add diversity to what I feed.

So, I'm not sure if I can make it to Fragstock yet. I've been looking forward to it for months but my bride's pretty sick and I need to see how it goes. But I can let you know.

Sounds good, y'all! It looks like I have five bags spoken for and I think I have nine left.

Here's a video of the tank feeding tonight. As the scene opens, the food cube is in the water and has floated to the top right. The dussimieri tang has just smelled the food in the water and is just about to enter the camera frame. :)

All the food is frozen solid and ready whenever you all are. (It'll keep for a while if you aren't.) As a warning, my bride is running a fever and it may be the flu. I've been clear of it for about a week. I can meet you outside on the sidewalk if you'd like. :)

Here's the list as it stands:

1. JPC763: 1 bag
2. Hurrafreak: 1 bag
3. Hoodrat: 2 bags
4. 12GallonBaby: 1 bag
5. 12GallonBaby's dad: 2 bags
6. Adams0816: 2 bags
7. Dreamer: 1 bag

Total: 10 bags spoken for.

I have four more left if anyone's interested.

Thanks!

Do you turn off your overflow when you feed? I am interested in your last bag but not sure when I can get up to Boulder to pick it up, I live in Broomfield.

I can hold it for you for a while if you'd like. I mean, it _is_ frozen food. I've used it up to 3-4 months old, though I like to work it through a little faster than that. I feel like I might have pushed the limit on the last batch as the fish weren't reacting quite as well, but I was up over 4 months of a lot of the same food.

Let me know....

Edit: Sorry. I don't turn off my overflow, but I also have a lot of tanks downstairs that I feed. Worrying about losing a little food is just too much work for me, though.

Hey! Sorry I haven't been keeping up on this. Both I and my daughter came down with whatever the new virus is. Ugh. It doesn't look like we'll be able to make Fragstock ( :( ) as we are both still actively running fevers. Sorry.

Sorry. I think they are all spoken for. I didn't wind up with as much food as I thought I would, though (6 ladles is a lot :) ), so I'll probably be doing this again fairly soon. Would you like me to let you know?
