Homemade moonlights!

I just wanted to share with everyone how I made my own moonlights. Go on ebay and for $7 you can pick up a 3.3ft strip of blue leds. I have an aqueon 30" to light as well as a 36 inch white led bar behind that. So I took my blue led strip an coiled it inside the aqueon fixture with the leds facing horizontal to the tank in other words coiled around the fixture they face each other simply to not be too bright. Then I just cut a little slot on the back of my fixture glued the included 110v adapter inside and ran the cord out the back. Plug it in and vwallah you have moonlights on any fixture for $7! I do not know what the wavelength is nor do I car as it is simply a FOWLR that I wanted moonlights on.:celeb1:

I have been wanting to add moon lighting to my tank and was not sure how to do it.

I like your low cost, low tech, perfect solution.

Was all worried about getting another timer but don't worry about it just leave them plugged in all the time works amazing!

Can anyone explain to me why commercial, and in this case DIY, moonlights are blue? Every time I look at the moon, it's white, and whenever I've gone night diving moonlight on the reef has been a cool white. Maybe I'm missing something?

current still has some of the white modules floating around

Blue penetrates the water better than most other colours, so the white moonlight looks quite blue once under water. And, as said, makes the corals look better :)

I have UV led that I will be using for moon lights and I think there are UV bars on ebay as well that is not very expensive... UV makes colors of the corals pop even more than what blue does.. JMO

Dont rain on my parade man. Telling me there's bigger better things out there.... ha anyone want my light now? Jk still very happy with it I don't have any corals but I do still like to see the fish at "night"

That looks good man. I'd love to sit up in a comfy chair with the lights low and chill out right there. The blue lighting fits in well with the ocean theme.
