homer1475's Biocube 29 Build Thread

no I have my second pump in chamber two as I have a HOB skimmer so I have the room.

Honestly you are using a reactor now so the media rack is kind of pointless...so if no room in chamber 3 I would remove the media rack. I'm sure you would easily do a small egg crate setup at the top of the second chamber to put some floss on if needed.

Thanks soulpatch I will workout something. Not sure if I will do it today. There is room
under the skimmer 9001 if I can get the output from the pump past the skimmer!?!?!?
Thanks again for your help,
Barry

ooo good luck with that. I remember how tight that was or a fit between the rack and skimmer
I just check it out and I'm sure I can get the output line from the pump up along side
the skimmer with no problems. I guess I will try it this morning.
The last time I took the skimmer out...........I burnt the drivers out on my lights:hmm3:
It's only MONEY.

I tried the same thing. It was so tight I couldn't get the skimmer cup to stay on as the skimmer itself was pushed so far to the wall. I ended up getting the aquatic life skimmer to go in chamber 1. If you can get it to work, let me know the trick so I can try it. i would prefer the tunze skimmer in the middle.

UPDATE it's in chamber #2 and all is well. It fit just fine under my 9001.
I'll try to get a couple of photos later today.
Thanks,
Barry

You know if you put an elbow on the pumps outlet, it works much better and fits better in the whatever chamber you want to put it in.

Well seeing as I hate the aesthetics of the Aurora puck, I emailed the RapidLED guys and was advised to just add a couple LED's on the end of my heatsink. So I went ahead and ordered 4 royal blues, and 4 cool whites(2 on each side). Hopefully this fixes the super bright in the middle issue I hate so much.

On a side note, I cannot say enough about these guys and their CS, definitely second to none. Every email, and/or phone call was answered in a timely fashion and with the greatest of ease. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone looking for a DIY LED system.

I know when I do my bigger build, I will most definitely be using these guys for my lighting needs.

I went with the kessil for my larger build as its WE lens doesn't have as much dullness on the edges. I might add a Cebu MH fixture later after it gets going to really light it all up.

Just a little update.

Been dosing Nopox for about a week now, and I can happily say my nitrates are down from over 64ppm to roughly 32ppm(I'm inbetween 2 colors on the red sea kit. lol).

Definitely going to keep using this, might even buy a dosing pump so I don't forget like I did the other night.

Got some zoa frags from people on here the other day, and thought I would post some pics of them.

From left to right, Scrambled eggs, Pink Sakura's, and Fruit loops.

Also got some Rasta Zoa's, but their not open right now.

I really didn't plan on a frag rack, but found I really needed one when everything came in the other day. Being no where near an LFS, and needing one NOW!, I DIY'ed one out of 2 pieces of egg crate, and the magnets from the korallia pumps I'm not using. I'm kind of impressed with how it turned out, I'm not one to think on my feet like that and have it turn out so well. Its small enough to fit where I want it, and can hold about 8 frag plugs depending on size. Only problem is my clown goby thinks its his perch now.

Better picture of the Scrambled Eggs. I really like this zoa!

kenya tree got thrown in from one of the guys. The top little bit broke off in shipping. To be quite honest, I could care less if it makes it or not. I'm just not that into SPS's, I have yet to see any that I actually like.

Just finished installing the extra LED's I bought from RapidLED. I've got to say it makes a HUGE difference in the perceived light. My tank no longer looks like it has a spotlight onit, and that makes me super happy. I added 2 cree CW, and 2 cree RB to each side for a total of 4 more LED's.

I saw your thread in their forum today and was going to reply but figured you've already bought.

I'm glad it solved the issue! I always wonder about buying a few LEDs for here or there. I still haven't even swapped out the CREE green for the lime yet.

I was going to recommend trying an NW, but I'm glad the CWs are blending nicely. Did you need to add drivers, or not even? Just some additional solderless connectors and ends?

I just added solderless LED's, run off the same drivers.

Actually the plug from the drivers goes into one of the extra LED's, then into the next(same color obviously), then into the puck, then out of the puck to the opposite string, with the terminal plug on the last LED in the string.

Basically just making my own string with the puck being the middle LED's.

BarryV, its not the amount of LED's n the puck(its plenty bright), its the tiny footprint(about a dollar bill size) all those LED's are squeezed into, it creates a horrible spotlight effect. Adding the extra blue and white to the end of the heatsink helps immensely.

its weird since putting on my Kessil (that is admitedly about 5" from waters surface) I have no shadowing. That 3 inches or so of difference plus how Kessil aims their LEDs has changed a lot.

I still dont get how the Kessil has a lot more shimmer then the RapidLEDs either.

So I went ahead and got a third flame angel(third times the charm?). Hopefully this guy makes it into the DT. Undergoing TTM right now, then 4 weeks of QT with 2 rounds of PP. He's got until the end of September before even being close to going into the DT. Fingers crossed this time, and I won't let my wife clean the QT with dawn. :headwalls:
