Hey All,

I stopped in The Tropical Fish Outlet a week or so ago and they were doing some renovations. I have bought food and a few fish there in the past but not much really ever thrills me.

I went back today to check up on them and they are really expanding. They are setting up a whole new saltwater section. They had a wall of nice commercial tanks all plumbed to a sump/filter system. Maybe about 30-40 tanks, a little live rock in all the tanks.. Three rows high, I assume the middle row was cycling because there were blue damsels in 4-5 of the tanks.

I had my family with me so I didn't have time to talk (once you start a conversation in there you can't get out).

For those of you that don't get over here to much, I try to keep you all updated.

Let's hope it turns out a nice improvement we can all benefit from.

BTW, he also added at least 20 new freshwater tanks.

I really hope for the best for them but there tanks always look so bad from lack of maintnance. I was always scared to buy anything from them because of the way there tanks looked. It is great that they are getting allot more tanks as long as ty take care of them. Dave from tropical fish outlet and his son are great people though.

Well I think this should be the start of an improvement. I think the old tanks he uses for saltwater fish just had individual undergravel filters, driven by bubbles, if I remember correctly. They all had course river stones as a substrate. Makes me think they were freshwater tanks and they just added salt without changing anything else. The new setup looked nice, although he had bio-balls in the filter system. Having 30-40 small tanks plumbed together makes maintaining them a little easier. That little room he had in the back for saltwater fish was dark and tight. Lets hope the fish are as nice as the setup.

Expanding like that makes you think, who is buying all this stuff?
