Horseshoe crab

These really shouldn't be collected.. They do get 2 foot long (1 foot in diameter I believe). They will stir your substrate clean as can be.. and eventually they'll become extremely large and won't be able to find enough food for themselves.. eventually starving.. same case with the sandsifter starfish.

They eat worms and other debris in the live sand.

Yup, they get very large and eat lots. Also need pristine water quality. Not a good critter for the aquarium.

Yeah find a way tp return him to the ocean...:spin1:

Only if you collected it yourself, haven't added it to tank with specimens from other locations, and can return to the same location it came from. Otherwise, returning one from another location that has been mixed with critters from other oceans is a very bad idea...as well as illegal. It's great way to spread disease issues and such.

Hey Fab, keep posting your experience . Love to see your results . Just saw a 1.5 inch one at LFS . Cool as anything . He was digging like a tank through the sand . Pretty awesome.

Cool what store. I am still keeping mine thriving and I found an easier way to feed. I just drop some pellets into the substrate and once they start expanding he finds them and eats them. I have found they are detritavores. They are hardy but just hard to feed. If you get one I have some tactics to keep them thriving.

I have been toying with the idea of buying him. But then I saw a pair of Maldives clowns for 9.99 ea. So the clowns won out . The kids at the school would get a big kick out of seeing a HS crab. He would definitely keep my sand stirred . He was priced at 25$ , a little too much for what I think he is worth .

I would say that was a little overpriced. I got mine for $12.

I have a wild caught one. I feed him with mysis, uncooked shrimp and uncooked talapia, flounder, etc.

I use a med syringe to squirt it into the sand in front of where the horseshoe crab is walking. It will stop where I put it and it eats. Daily.

big pieces of fish (size of a half dollar), anchor it to a small rock and it will eat right in front of you.

So far, it molted once and is still going strong.

Just my experience.

I should try that.
