Besides putting a GFI outlet in, you can also get GFI circuit breakers, they replace the ones in your electrical panel.

it is very scary. i can home to a fire in my place 2 years ago. an extension cord shorted and caused a my tank to catch fire. i lost my entire tank....needless to say the fire department took care of it by dumping the thing everywhere. i lost alot of my stuff furniture, computers, etc. thank god for insurance. now that i finally restarted this addiction, i am always nervous about fires. that is good that you went with your gut and went home.
family and pets hands down come before the tank in my mind!!!

thats why play iy sage make sure you have everything on gfcis which is a big help and DONT use extension cords spend the money to get the electirc upgraded to what u need
