House or tank??? Time to sell the tank

Well we have decided to buy a house so I need to sell off my tank, equipment, and six years worth of coral. I wish I could do both but in order to pull the trigger on buying our first house I need the cash. Hopefully the person who takes on my stuff will provide me with some frags when I get back on my feet.

Anyway, here is what needs to go, which is everything. I would like to see it all go together. If that doesn't work out THEN a new thread will be started to part everything out. Please don't reply with "dibs" or "I'll take that". Its hard enough having to sell everything off so I'm hoping to send the whole thing to a good home.

150 gallon visio glass tank
Wood stand and canopy
50 gallon glass sump/refugium
24x18x14 glass prop tank, drilled bottom
4 x 250w MH lights (3 EVC 14k SE, 1 Reeflux 12k)
2 x Luminarc Minis
1 Spider reflector
1 PFO pendant (prop tank)
3 IceCap MH Ballasts
1 EVC E-Ballast (prop tank)
1 IceCap 660
1 Workhorse 7 ballast
4 48" T5 HO bulbs
2 24" T5 HO bulbs (prop tank)
Sequence Dart closed loop
OM Super Squirt
Tunze 6000
2 Tunze 6100's w/ Tunze Multicontroller
Mock DIY Deltec skimmer w/Aquabee recirc pump
Koralin 1502 Ca Reactor w/10lb CO2 and regulator
2 phos reactors (1 used for second Ca chamber)
Ozone reactor
Ozone monitor/controller
Refugium lighting
ReefKeeper 2 controller (brand new)
HF20 sump return pump
2 Seio's (in prop tank)
Multiple heaters
5 stage RO/DI system
60gal water drum
Bucket of Ocean Pure Pro
Dorm room fridge converted to supply chilled top-off water

Too many corals to list (50-60 pieces), but you can get an idea of how full my tank is by these pictures.

Also have many fish, 4 large clams, 1 giant Derasa clam bigger than a football, 180 lbs of very mature live rock, and over 100 lbs of live sand (DSB). There is also all the plumbing, electrical, and 6 years of work that makes this a very mature ready to rock reef tank.

I calculated what I purchased everything for and came up with $14,000 :eek2:
When I regained consciousness I figured the best thing to do was itemize everything and calculate a fair price for each item... most from 50-60% off unless brand new (just a few new things). also tried to come up with a fair price for corals, but certainly not trying to get retail. When I finished that I came up with a total selling price of $8760. That is what I estimate I could get if I parted everything out... which I'm not ready to do, so please don't ask yet.
Okay, enough chatter. I'm offering up the 6 best years of my life :p for $8000 which is $760 less than what I'd make parting it all out. It would sure be worth the loss not having to mess around with splitting it all up.
Anyway, I know it sounds like a lot of money, but I also know how much it would cost to start up and get what I'm offering. This is not just some tank with a bunch of new frags. The reef has been grown out for 6 years into some magnificent colonies. The prop tank has been up for more than 6 months and has many unique pieces that I've collected, not just frags of the tank colonies. Almost all corals are Acro except for a few acan/micros. Anyway, thats it. I'm crossing my fingers that someone will want the whole thing... or I stumble across a bunch of money and don't have to sell.

NO DIBS YET!!!

The tank dimensions are 60x24x24
I'll have to measure but I think the stand is 30" tall and the canopy is 12 or 14 and hinged in the front. Forgot to mention I also have many fans premounted, float switch automation, and so much more.

Oh man!!!! What a gorgeous tank... And your gonna sell it!?!? You must REALLY want that house. I'm very impressed..

Me? I've got a nice tank with some sticks (frags) maybe in a few years I'll have something nice to look at like yours...

Kenfuzed, you know what's going to happen. You sell it, get your house and then will NEED to get a tank once in your new house. You might as well keep your tank, buy your house (8k is not going to make much of a difference over a 30 years mortgage) and put your tank in the new house - this will save you a lot of money in the next few years.

Negate all of what i said if you want to get a bigger tank for your new house. :)

Wow, I can't believe you're selling that monster. Let me be the first to say I'll buy it when I find $8000!

Awesome tank people; you'll be amazed at your purchase!!!!

That is what I'm hoping for down the road after moving. My dream is to someday have a larger in-wall tank with separate fish room. It's no secret that this hobby is a money pit. I need to stop the bleeding now by just selling. In the long run it will cost me 3 times the money, but for now we get into a house before the interest rates hit the roof. Every penny counts right now and keeping this tank going would just be too difficult while moving into a house.

BTW, I might even be selling my Harley. That is how bad I want a house!

That's not the real reason you're selling

That's not the real reason you're selling

You just don't want to take the time to take the tank apart and put it back together again cuz it will never look that good again.

Just kidding.

Great tank................

How about $50 down and $50 week for 50 years?

HAHA John, in 50 years I'll be... OMG!!!!:eek2:

People, this is a great deal. I have seen this tank and the livestock and everything in it are healthy and beautiful. I only wished my corals were half as colorful as the ones in this tank. If only I had the time to dedicate to a bigger tank, I would be all over this. Good luck Ken.

Wow, sorry to see you break down that beautiful tank. Your posts were always informative. If the sale doesn't work out, I would be interested in some of your livestock and would be willing to set you up with frags once your up and running again. Good luck.

Thanks, I hope I won't be out too long. Even without a tank I'll stay active on the board until I can afford to jump back in with a bigger tank. I have no plans on leaving the hobby anytime soon, it's got it's hooks in me now! :p
I might keep a little frag tank until then.

sorry to hear that you have to take down that beauty. gl with your sale, whoever buys it is one lucky person. i wish i could afford it. but if you end up parting i'll be there the first day to take some coral!!!

If I do decide to part out it will happen with a one weekend sell-a-palooza. I don't think I could take waiting around for people to show up day after day until its all gone.

sorry to hear ken. good luck with the sale. i've decided pretty much along your same line as you. In my situtation though, I may be selling my colonies and just keeping a frag or two of each before my move.

Ken,
I know you need the cash, believe me I've been down this road before with the house. Don't sell the equipment, trust me. Get rid of the tank, the rock and all the corals but keep the good stuff that's going to cost you and arm and a leg to replace. Getting the corals back is going to be cheap, getting the equipment back isn't.

BTW, the guy down the steet has a house just like mine but its been upgraded big time, the inside has all been remodeled along with the front and side yard (corner house) I bet they put 100-150K into that house in the last 2 years. I don't have a clue why he's moving cause there's no way he's going to get any of the upgrade money back. They started asking 635K, last I heard he was down to 615K...I just checked the listing, its down to 610K.

I agree -- I would definately keep the core equipment, like the skimmer, lights, the Tunze's, and the CA reactor. If you end up not using them on the new tank, they will be worth just as much when you figure that out as they are now.

Its gonna take a year just to break down that tank. :D
If I didnt have to restore my house I would go for it.

Invite everyone over for a frag swap and raffle to raise money. Keep the equipment and silent auction off the tank itself. Would be a huge party!!
