house smells like a fish store

a buddy of mine is having a problem. his house smells like a fish store (only has a 125 gallon tank)

why would this happen? the whole basement smells like a fish store. IHe is running carbon and a de-humidfyer.

any ideas why?

If his tank is still cycling uncured LR, he'll get that I suppose.

IMO, probably due to poor circulation of fish-y air out of the basement, but I'm not a vent guy so I couldn't say for sure.

It shouldn't smell like fish if it's cycled, my water has a very earthy smell, nothing foul. Actually kinda pleasant.

My guess is that he needs better air and/or water circulation down there.

Clean out the skimmer collection cup.

i told him that.. and he says he cleans it weekly.

I think it has to do with his new fuge

Is anything dying in the tank? I've had a few things die on me that made my whole house smell for a couple of days, even with carbon running.

Running 2 Koralia 4s in the tank and a 1300gph return pump split in half, half through sump half through fuge.

The basement has heat/air ducts, he is running 3 120mm computer fans on the tank canopy to cool the lights.

Tank is at 6 months, no new live rock and he used all dry rock except for 2 pieces of live to seed.

nothing has died.
