Housing Gigantea Question?

OK so at a LFS they have a great looking Purple Gigantea, they have had it for about a month and it looks great, there are no clowns in the tank with it, its a great price, and Im willing to give it a try.I have a 300 gallon reef tank, no SPS, some LPS and softies.I have 4 250 LumenBright 12k Reeflux for lighting and VHO actinics. There is a closed loop in the back of the tank and 2 Vortechs on either end, I have about 16 tangs in the tank now, and as far as clowns I have 2 black saddlebacks, 1 flame , 1 Rods Onyx, 1 True Perc, the flame hosts a big GBTA, so Im hoping some of the others will take to the Gigantea, Im semi worried about the rest of my fish, none of them have ever had a run in with my other anemones, ritteri, PLTA, or GBTA.Also worried about the Gigantea roaming and hurting the corals, now I dont have any super fancy expensive corals, but Id rather not hurt what I have.

So as far as placement?
I have a DSB of crushed coral and oolite sand.

Im also hoping if some of my clowns host it they would be territorial enough to run of any would be victims.

I have 2 in my 35 gallon cube and i have other fish with them. I have never really heard of Gigantea's eating fish. The Haddonis are bad for that.
You have enough light and the flow would be great for it. I put mine at the base of a rock in the sand but they are on the rocks now.

Your clowns would hopefully go for it. And if it is healthy and been there for that long i would go for it...

That sounds like a great find... I've been looking for a purple or blue gigantea myself. And, it sounds like you've got the setup for it. How much are they asking for these in NC?

id say its 8-10" in their tank, im sure its closer to 12" they were asking $275, keep in mind this is in a very high end store that has a ton of overhead to so their prices are always through the roof, but i have bought plenty from them in the past, so they said $200 , im sure they know at that price it will be hard to sell and may just sit in their tank forever. Im going to pick it up tomorrow

Actually, from what I've heard, $200 is a great price for a purple. I called around this week and found a store in my area who recently sold out of greens... they were selling for $200... I would MUCH rather have a purple at that price.

sounds like an awesome deal. I have a 18" gigantea in my 40gal reef. I have never had any trouble with it roaming. If you give it a nice spot on a flat rock surface with good direct lighting and decent flow you shouldnt have any trouble with it moving.

OK so went and picked it up today, dripped him for about 2 hours and he never looked unhappy and had attached his foot to the bottom of the bucket, mouth tight.

Here it is about an hour into the tank.

Great find. It looks like it might be a tad close to the other corals though. Might think about moving the corals so they wont' get stung and die. My purple gigantea is about 12 inches or so and has eaten a few fishes in my tank, even with clowns guarding it. It has also stung/killed a few sps. Just make sure to keep corals as far from it as possible and it'll be fine.

Sowhere do these like to be placed? He was happy on the rocks under my lumenbright, but today when I got home he had moved up onto the side of the overflow near the middle of the tank, his mouth was open and guts hanging out, now I know most anemones do this as they are acclimating, when i touched him he qucikly shut his mouth and is still super sticky, just wondering if i can help him find a happy spot.

They will find a spot they like mine has been attache to the back glass and the rock. It now has its foot attached to a rock just below the sand line.
Open mouth is not too bad, watch closely for the cycle of deflating and inflating to begin. This is a bad sign and usually spells the end. Mine has never deflated and once settled never moved.
If its on the glass and moving up cover PH and hope it moves down, dont try and move it yourself. The foot and column are very thin and damage easily.

Only powerheads are one MP40, its a 120 4x2x2.And its way up on one of the side walls.No deflating yet , hes still nice and big , just open mouth, but its shut now, havnt tried feeding him, and no clowns hosting yet, I have one fire clown in the tank but hes in my BTA, hoping my 2 black saddles will host him when I move it to my 300 eventually.How high are your lights from the anemone?

I have my lights 12 inches off the water and the nem is 18 inches deep in a 24 deep tank. I use 400 watt reeflux 12k bulbs and a coralife ballast.

The mpw 40 should be good if on pulse and cranked right up.

They prefer to tb perpendicular to the light source so on the bottom on a rock or with the foot near the rock sand interface but attached to a rock not in the sand.
The rock may be smooth or undulating.

Ok cool, my lights are 14" off the water, but they are 12k 250 in lumenbrights, I got him to move to the bottom along the rock sand line, hopefully he will like it there.Really want this thing to do well, and confidant that I can make it work, just hope he stays strong.
