these fish are little terrors. I had a small pair of GSM in my 65 and they would peelout on the sand bed and terrorize the other fish. Although beautiful, I don't suggest these fish unless in a predator tank of a larger size
Mine got traded back to the LFS because she drew blood every time I put my hand in the tank, even if it was at the opposite end of the tank, she would attack...
I have a maroon gold bar, That sucker attacks my hands every time, also jumped out the tank twice trying to attack me. They are very territorial and harder to pair. As long as the other fishes stay out of his area, then there's no problems, but be cautious if you place another clown fish in there.
I've only had my Maroon for a few months, she's very docile and I can hand-feed her. OTOH, I have a 10 yr old False Perc and she attacks me every chance she gets, made me bleed a few times, too. That fish is currently banished to my sump.
But in general, most Maroons are known for their aggressive nature which probably intensifies as they get older. From a thread I did about "removing aggressive fish", people have had to remove (6) Maroon Clowns from their tanks.
I have a pair in a 40 breeder. No aggression at all, of course they have not spawned yet. The white stripe variety are supposed to be more aggressive than the gold stripe(which I have). I have my pair with a LTA.
*I have a pair of maroon clowns and man.....as soon as my hand goes in the tank they r all over it...they take turns charging and nippin at me....and thats just with my hand in the tank...I dont dare get close to one of there anenomes...lol
