How am I doing

Yeah I was wrong too I guess anyway nitrites were zero this morning. So I did my water change. I wasn't happy with all of that rubble in the mesh bag was too hard to get out anyway so I ended up draining the entire sump reserving some of the water in it. To just rinse the sponge and all of the rubble in. I couldn't believe how much crud was already in the bottom of the sump. I guess from the initial cloudiness of the sand. So I dumped the rest of the sump and rinsed in RO water and then i took water from the display and overflow section. I had about 30 gallons of saltwater mixed up already when I went to pump it back. I guess I took too much out as my return section wasn't full Even after the partial reserve water went back in the sump with the rinsed rubble( I was careful not to put all the crud back in) but something told me to not dump the last siphoned bucket so I added that to top it off and still wasn't full so I put in 2 gallons of fresh RoDi. I was really surprised how much that sump holds. long story short I put about 32 gallons of new water in my 67 gallon system. I didn't plan on that much but oh well. I retested an hour after I was done salinity 1.025 no ammonia, no nitrites, ph 8.2 and nitrates went from 20ppm to 5ppm. And after taking the advice last night my lights are on full schedule and I put the plug back in the collection cup on the skimmer so I am now fully operational 12 days. I would have to say smartstart does probably help speed up the cycle considerably.

So I'm still going to let it ride for a bit since normally this would be the time for cleanup crew. But I have nothing to clean up so should I still ghost feed every 3 days still to feed the bacteria or not introduce and nitrates and phosphates for no reason

I hope the more experienced reefers chime in here for you. But I don't think you need to go hat feed anymore. Wait a few days to check water parameters and then add you first inhabitant(s). I think the SmartStart worked well. I will start my next tank the same way. Except I will not allow the huge dust storm from the falling powerhead. It seams to me that everywhere the live sand dust stuck to is where I have algae. I say that because I cleaned half the tank before I decided I should probably leave it there so the bacteria doesn't end up trapped in my filter sock. I don't know if that was the right way to do it. I know my current algae situation is extreme but my parameters are good and my 20 turbo snails I added last night are putting in work!! I added GFO and Carbon with hopes of maintaining ultra low phosphate until the algae is eaten by the snails.

I have been photographing this whole process and will put together a build thread after DSmack finished his, hopefully iPhones are still being supported by the time he finishes his.

I'd watch it for another week. The key here is most folks are anxious to go crazy and add stuff overnight, if you do that, you'll probably regret it. There is no hurry, just add stuff slowly and then watch it for a couple weeks and enjoy the ride, then maybe add something else and do the same thing.

Not sure. I think we will see people living on mars before the iPhone is discontinued, but what will be first, discontinued iPhones or the completed DSmack build thread? Crickets......

Yeah I'm waiting it out that's why I wanted some pods. But this is a very unusual cycle for me. And still wondering on the ghost feeding? Whats up with iPhones on here

Sorry that's my fault. I was just playing with DSmack. I am getting a bug bomb tomorrow
