I just got a candy cane with 3 heads. I was told all it need was good night but can be feed to increase growth.

What do I feed them with?
How do I do it?

thanks

I feed mine mysis mixed with brine about every 2 or 3 days. If I feed the tank and not them now they put their feeder tentacles all the way out to try to catch some.

is mysis frozen or dried?

Do you spot feed them or just dump in the tank?
Do you only feed them after lights are off? Mine only have it's tentacles out after all lights are off.

Sorry, realized i forgot the good info.

Ok, I spot feed each head of the candycane with a plastic pipette with the tiny end cut off.

The mysis/brine are frozen. I thaw one cube of each in a shot glass 1/2 full with tank water. Then I suck up a pipette full and and put it on the heads. I originally didnt see much reaction for 2 weeks or so, but now the literally beg for food when i feed the rest of the tank. Once they get used to you feeding them they will put out their tentacles whenever you feed the tank. HTH.

I have never noticed any tentacles coming out from mine. I've had mine for 2 months now and they seem to be still closed. What is going on with mine? My water parameters are normal and I have it placed near the bottom of my tank with medium flow.

No need to buy anything really fancy to feed your corals.

Go to petco or petsmart and buy one of their wooden tongs. They are by the reptile section, they are about a dollar.

jemzam, are you looking at yours with a flashlight at night? Mine rarely extend with the lights on. If i do feed them, it's whatever the fish didn't eat. I've seen them catch and consume flakes as well as chopped fish food.

My candy cane is out every morning and I usually don't have time to spot feed so I try and put a small amount of cyclops in the tank and hope they get some.
When I do spot feed them I use a baster and obviously their tentacles recede. Does this mean they are getting food or maybe they are irritated by me spraying them?
Anyways, I have today off and my lights aren't on yet so I think I may give it a go.

viodea, it works well, but the hole in the end is small and gets plugged easily. if it's extra fine pieces, it will do the trick. The "spike" on the end is just about worthless though, its not sharp enough to really stick in to anything other than a large piece of shrimp or solid food. I have one, but rarely use it with my current food. I am getting some new stuff in soon (extra fine) that it will probably work a lot better with.

The sea squirt is great for target feeding.

I had problems too with the opening on the end being too small and getting jammed with Mysis. I took a pocket knife and reamed out the hole a little and now have no problems with it clogging.
