How big does a Green polyp toadstool get.....

Just curious to know how big aone of these actually get. My tank has been up and running 15mths now. I've had my toadstool 12mths when it was only
2-1/2" across. Now its over 9". I've heard that when it gets bigger, it actualy gets this folded look about it. The polyps are always out but its not flat as it used to be. Its still my most beautiful coral. What i'd love to know is whats the biggest size anyone has ever had in their tank or seen. Anther coral thats growing huge at the moment is my devils hand. I had one that grew to 20" x 20". Probably weighed 30lbs as well. Had to chop it up into many colonies and discard the stalk. Took about 3yrs to reach that size. I kept one of the colonies and am careful to keep it pruned.

I was wondering about this myself quite some time ago and I have found out that a lot of people were claiming that the white polyp or brown toadstools would get a lot larger than the green. Some claim 36" in diameter in captivity.

I'm not entirely sure there really is a maximum size for a lot of these corals. The colony is always expanding, given the right conditions.

Often times corals are limited by the patience of their owners, or practicality of keeping them. Especially soft corals. The temptation to frag, or simply trade in, a softy curves upwards rather rapidly as it grows in size. Give any soft coral 3-4 years of uninterrupted growth though and it'll become huge. It's just getting the aquarium owners to allow 3-4 years of uninterrupted growth that is pretty rare.
