First off I am not trying to offend anyone is this forum.Question for you guys, I have a 240 SPS only tank and when I was holding a frag of some zoo's for a buddy of mine it started growing on the rock. Now I have my main piece of rock ion the center of the tank covered in zoo's. I now it would be easy to say just take the rock out, but in order for me to do that I would have to take 80% of my rock out. Is there any fish etc. that I can put into my tank that would eat zoo's but not my SPS

I would think a camel shrimp might do the trick. I know they eat zoas/shrooms, but not sure about SPS.

Doesn't matter. Zoas loose in a SPS tank are a nightmare.

Reefer you might consider sundial snails. They aren't fast, but they are thorough if you get enough of them to start a colony.

They grow without regards for the surrounding creatures. SPS can't fight them off, they will grow right up into colonies. Zoas are next to impossible to get rid of from rockwork. Enough of them in the tank and you have a nice soupy chemical mess, which many say can inhibit SPS growth.

Don't mistake 10 zoas on a plug for zoas unleashed on liverock. There is no comparison. I've got zoas growing wild on rocks in my frag tank, that came from a guy who dismantled his 200+ gallon reef to get rid of the zoas and star polyps infesting his rocks.

Getting rid of Zoas

Getting rid of Zoas

I had some ugly light brown/green zoos on the front of some live rock that were taking over. I took some boiling r/o water and applied the hot water to them with a turkey baster. They closed up for a couple of days and now they are gone. It does take the coralline off the rock and be careful as the boiling water can be dangerous when using a turkey baster. It comes out very quickly due to the pressure and heat. It worked for me.

Read that before thinking about boiling water and zoos.

Boiling Water and Zoas

I killed mine directly in the tank and I did not have any ill effects. Just to let you know.

I understand, I just didnt want anyone to think of doing it outside of the tank with that method. I dont know if I would want to do it inside the tank.
