how can I kill unwanted coral?

fullmonti

now is the time
One of the first corals I got was a green Pocillopora (ICK). Little volunteer Pocilloporas colonies started popping up in my tank.

I want them dead!

How can this be done?

Well, my suggestion would be---frag and sell that rock as specimen rock for people who want poci, get new rock, and enjoy it!

Don't kill them. Give them away or sell them for a few bucks. Otherwise, yank them out of the tank and throw them away.

I did frag the mother colony, the nub is on a rock that is epoxied to the back wall. The rest of the volunteers are to small to frag, & even if I could frag them there is still the encrusted part left on the rock work that just keeps coming back. Also all my rocks are epoxied together (started with dry rock) so just taking a rock out is not really possible.

So all that said, I know this goes against every thing reef keeping is about. BUT how can I kill what's left?

What I did was just waited till they where big enough and just popped them off the rock.
But like you said there is always going to be part of it on the rock. Find something encrusting that you like more and hopefully it will over grow it.

Don't worry about killing it. The same people that would scream about killing this wouldn't say anything about killing the aptasia in their tank. At this point its just another pest.

let it grow and frag and sell it, why kill it hen you could trade for some corals? I do agree that some poci's are ugly, but too some for a starter sps it would be an awesome trade. If you antr it dead just bust it off and put a rock over where it was at, without light i wouldnt think it would grow

Best is to just pop them off the rock. However that coral has that annoying habit which is a survival technique. That is why many people never introduce that coral into their system.

Wow I couldnt agree more! There is no difference if u kill a 500 dollar coral or an aptasia. I have little corals that i dont want another one of popping up all the time. My tank is loaded and i dont even have room for new frags that i want, no way can i let these grow till i can frag them. Just not enough realestate, have to nuke em! Use the kalk paste. Mix it thick, shut off current, cover them for 5 mins
