How can I lower

my KH?

It's running high but I'm in the process of doing water changes and from my research, it looks as though your kh will rise the more water changes you do...

What should I do?

How high is it and what is the calcium level? Once things get out of balance it can be hard to get them back.

Hey Jack, Do you think if Reggae and I mix both of our tanks together that might solve both of our problems :p
My cal is still at 700, and my alk is 3.8. Been doing the water changes, finally got my salinity down to norm.
Good Luck with your tank.

Salifert

The only time my kh has been normal is when I switched my water changes to bi-weekly.

Here are my parameters

PH- 8.2
Salinity- 1.025
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 15
Calcium- 380
Temp 82 morning- 84 day with lights

Should I just hold out?
I'm a little worried in case my ph drops because all the buffers raise your alk.

Just let the alk drop on it's own. As corraline and corals grow the dKh can drop by 2-3 per day so for now just watch, maintain your ca and mag while it drops. Everything looks fine. Some cheato to help with the nitrates and maybe kick the skimmer up a tiny bit and they'll lower.

Jean I'd use some IO for water changes for a bit w/o any supplementation of any kind and wait it out as well. After a good 25-50% change with IO if the dKh is still low use just baking soda to help the alk.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It shouldn't hurt anything.

Don't worry about the KH too much??? or the PH

Also, when my KH started to finally drop to the 12 range, my PH fell also. So, all you can really do is add the buffer which will increase the KH or a water change which will also raise the KH

I'm assuming having a stable PH is more important than having a lower KH...At least that is what everyone tells me.

Everything in my tank is looking good and healthy (except anemone) but I certainly want to rectify the problem.

So, would it be beneficial to add corals and would it be healthy??? When I noticed the number off, I stopped getting anything because I didn't want to cause any more problems but would additional corals help?

BTW- Roy, when you come over, do you have a PH monitor? I'd like to compare it with my test results...

I would wait on more corals until you get the nitrates down to about 5 if it's a sps or 10 if it's a softy/lps. But even some of those are a little touchy but in general most of those could care less provided it's not way up there. Yes I have a pH meter and I'll bring it. Sorry it's taking me so long to find an eve that works. I'm probably looking at Monday or Tues eve as of right now. This weekend I have adult leader outdoor training from Friday eve until Sunday eve and today I have to get organized, packed, and do the group food shopping.

BTW depending on tank design, xenia is an excellent nutrient export but you have to first want it, and secondly place it where you can control it's growth.
