How Can I Tell If My Seahorses are Pregnant or Just Fat

There are a few things you can look for aside from the obvious observation of the actual egg transfer or seeing the pouch growing .

The males when pregnant will become quite reclusive. The pouch will become darker in color and some become a little more difficult to feed and sometimes need to be target fed to ensure they are receiving proper nutrition.

Jenny, will the male still act funny if the egg transfer doesn't go well?
My male kuda and female reidi attempted a mating last Saturday, but the eggs missed the pouch, (at least I never saw any go in, but I guess it's possible to have happened before I watched.
Now, the male spends most of the time in a bottom corner of the tank, seldom venturing out even for food.
In the morning, when the lights come on, the male kuda and the female reidi are together, but the female eventually goes away, and the female kuda moves in and spends the day with the male kuda.
Maybe this male want's to be different and have a harem?

Hi rayjay,
Many times the male will receive some of the eggs while the remainder fall to the bottom of the tank.
I would watch this male to exibit signs of at least a partial successful mating. If he is not pregnant, you will be able to tell as he resumes his normal activity.

Many times the mating is not successful, especially in very young ponies but with some practice it will be a successful mating.
