How come my zoo's are not opening up???

I have a colony of about 30-40 zoo's that for about the past month will not extend their lashes... They open up slightly but their lashes will not extend. I have tried moving them to several different locations, inspected for nudi's and other parasites, even fw dipped them... I recently received 2 small frags ~8 polyps for free and they are doing the same thing.. Their lashes will not expand... They have only been in the tank for 2 days so maybe they will open. Is their anything that could make my tank not zoo "friendly"? Thanks!

Whoa i meant to put all that in guess i just forgot! WEll the tank is relatively new ~6 months...MY lighting is the current Nova Extreme Ho T5.. Whatever other lps and softies I have are doing fine!! My trates are at about 10 I am working to get them down. Trites ammonia and phos are all undetectable! Temp is ~81-82... Calcium is at 400.. Thats all I can think of right now...

Hello Fishmaster, there's probably absolutely nothing wrong with them. If they were open before and were doing fine and now they won't expand, just leave them be. I would have suggested that you..

TEST PARAMS........ SNIFF.......... INSPECT......... DIP......... OBSERVE......... AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE BEING WIGGLED BY CURRENT.

Zoa retraction is normal, at any given time I will have 1 or 2 colonies retracted for a day to a couple of weeks. It's nothing more than a means or external cleansing. Kind of like human skin exfoliation. Just continue to observe them on a daily basis and make doubly sure everything stays constance. BTW, a water change would be a good idea if you haven't performed one recently. Also, run your actinics for a full day and see what happens.

Good luck, Mucho

PS, if no other zoas are showing signs of said retraction, it's most likely an isolated case of nothing to worry about.

Well I would think the new ones are staying partially closed due to just becoming used to their new surroundings. But the other 2 colonies have been closed for at least a month... I just performed a water change today... Well see what happends! Part of the fun in the hobby is the mystery.. :)

I'll definitely let you know if i find out! Well anyone else have any reccomendations? Thanks for whatever reccomendations were given so far!

whats your ph? I know my zoos seem to be more extended with a PH around 8.0. if it gets higher than 8.2-3, i see them closing up or otherwise acting strange.
good luck

oh, [welcome] David Mole!
