How common is Acropora Abrolhosensis with Blue Tips?

I've not seen this guy in anyone else's tank and just wondering how common or uncommon this particular coral is so I figured I'd put out an APB on blue tipped green abrolhosensis. I linked to the AIMS picture and listing just for grins too . . . :D

Boring or unusual.

Boring or unusual.

So, this coral is too boring to discuss or no one has seen it in a tank?

joe :)

I have 2 varieties of this coral and I quite like it. The AIMS picture is taken from JEN Veron's book "Corals of the World" and the colour discription says the tips are pale with pink, brown or blue.
On my pieces, one has dark blue tips and the other is baby blue. There are a lot of variations on a lot of different corals but for this one I think blue is the most common.

i used to have one with blue/purple tips, but i got rid of it because my angels loved to slurp on the polyps

I have one also, no pic available ATM. I'll post one later tonight when I get home. It's difficult to get a good pic as I have it placed very near the surface and towards the back. I'll see what I can come up with.

Many of the descriptions of corals in "corals of the world" book state that many blues when photographed in the ocean will show as pink or purple.

Is this one?

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck . . . Hey I think that's a duck!

Nice coral dude :D I'd say that is definitely an Abrolhosensis, and the more I see of this coral the more I like it.

How fast does yours grow? I'd call mine a slow grower, but I've never given it a primo spot like you did so that may be the reason. Thanks for sharing ;)

After dphins, I hesitate to post mine. But here goes NEway.
Forgive the cerealis in the back, best picture I can come up with of the abro. It's in the back 1/2 of the tank, plus the tripod, lens is 3' away.

I used to see this coral all over 5 years ago. Either it lost popularity or became "rare" these days. IME. the more light you give this coral, the more blue you get down the tips. I had the brown/blue tip version go completely power blue on the side facing the light. I have been looking for this coral lately.

Mine recently started growing past the water surface so some of my tips are white.

In western australia this colouration and variety is one of the most predominant corals on the reef with 1000's of miles of coast line domintated by it.

At Abrolhos island group (mabee a hint at where the name came from) being on the mid west coast its choking up the lagoons growing like a weed after cray pots in the past did a little fragmentation:lol:

Colouration can be quite varied with some realy nice solid deep blues tips extending for inches down the colony. :eek1:

Of corse these are quite rare with nice brown variation with small blue tips much more comon:rolleye1:

Here's mine. There are located in hard to shoot places so sorry for the limited quality.
