How cool is this!

I bought two Bangaii Cardinais. One unfortunately died within a few days and then today I see it hovering above my purple tip anemone and thought for sure the second is about to go. Turns out these fish can host in an anemone! Very cool.

Yeah I believe I read somewhere that in nature they typically stick close to branching corals and urchins but will stay close to nems in the absence of those.
All about trying to stay protected..

Correct. That is what I read as well. Definitely keeps the other more boisterous fish away! What I find amazing is that the nem knows not to eat it. I put a small piece of prawn close to this nem and snap like a Venus fly trap but not with this fish.

They can't go into the anemone and make full contact like Anemonefish. What they do is staying close to the anemone while avoiding contact. There are other Cardinal fish that do this as well.

Watching it, it does not swim in and out like clown fish but does actually make light contact with tentacles which don't seem to bother it.

Anemones are not constantly stinging. This is why you can see them in contact with corals in crowded tanks but if they get into warfare with the coral, they will kill it. If it was constantly stinging it would try to sting and pull in any debris it feels. It is likely just not stinging the cardinal.
