My 240 was only about 450lbs., but it would have been very hard to do without the use of those glass suction cups with handles.
Got them at a rental center.

Get eight of your most competant and strong friends over to help. Most people are going to want to see a large fish tank anyways. It always helps to order some pizzas, everybody loves free food
so that's all it takes. suction and beer, in that order? i do have a few roofers that work for me that are pretty strong. i think i would need more than four or five guys though. maybe this could be a club event. like a tank tour before the water goes in.
Good luck. Took about 8 of us to move my 400G acrylic tank. Furnitur dollies work great to get it close before you have to lift it. Suction cups work great too.
Of coures the fun part is getting enough strong guys to lift it up high enough for it to clear the top of the stand. Didn't have quiet enough strong ones when we took it off the stand for the move and had to redo the foam under the tank.
Yes, beer is great tank moving fuel as long as most of the consumption takes place after the tank is in place.
For my tank (407USG) I had 6 workers (including me) and 2 watchers/photographers/advisers but we did not use suction cups. We used strops like are used to lift pianos and also slid the tank down a steep concrete path on carpet. No damage apart from nerves.
My tanks arnt that large, two 180s, I had about four people snatch them up and slide then through the side opening of the stand into position. I would hate to deal with moving anything as large as a 180, bith of my tanks are butt jointed on one stand.
I dont understand. I had only 6 with my 560g. 120X36X30. Backed up the pickup to the front door.(double) we lifted and moved it on dollys across house and then lifted again. was heavy but doable, 8 would have been better but they werent all huge guys or anything.
my 280 3/4 inch glass is 800 lbs and 6 of us moved it, no suction cups or dollies. Just picked it up and moved it in. As long as the people helping are smart than it should go fine.
I always wondered how you guys moved these tanks, I have trouble with my glass 33 by myself! Anyone ever drop one while moving? For thos ethat live in SOCAL, what are you doing to secure against earthquakes?
today we moved my glass 225 gal. Oceanic into the house from the garage where it had been stored since I bought it a few mos. ago.
4 guys - 2 moving dollies and 4 glass suction cups w/ handles from the rental center and it was a piece of cake.
Didn't have the suction cups when i brought it home from the lFS... I'm thinking of buying them they were that helpful.
- rental was 48.00 for 2 pair.
