How do I choose a cuke?

Angel*Fish

cats and large squashes
I'm looking for the kind that eats detritus in the sand like R.Shimek recommends for your DSB.

I've seen some at LFS but they've had feathery stuff on one end which I guess means they're filter feeders like sea apples??? I found some pink ones the other day that had no appendages- but how do you tell if they are healthy --?

Plus I'd like to choose one that is not especially toxic, if possible. How do you know what size to get?

Maybe there's a good online source?

I'm cucumber clueless!

read up on a tiger tail cucumber , these seem to be highly recommended

I just got one and I like it alot, does a great job of cleaning the sand, he does like to climb into my over flow.

Check out reeftopia.com. The Caribbean / Florida types are supposed to be very safe when it comes to toxins.

Our club members have been buying them for a couple of years. I have 2 and so far no problems.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help - I like the idea of getting my club to go in on a group order, too!

Tigertails and black turd cukes are the safest aquarium species. Stay away from Sea Apples - beautiful but dagerous. Keep an eye on them, though. My tigertail got caught on a powerhead and it magled him something good. I had to put him down. :( I loved that little bugger. They do a great job at cleaning the sand bed.

Very carefully! No seriously, the tigertails are great sand-sifters. Stay away from the more colorful sea apples. The boring ones are safe. :) Just keep an eye on them, they tend to roam away from the sand sometimes. I had to put one of mine down after he got caught in a powerhead. :( I loved that little bugger.

cmsurfr22 - you could probably do 2 tigertails no prob in the 210.

I just tried liveaquaria & reeftopia. Liveaquaria was out. I never see them for sale anywhere - but then never check the "odd inverts" sections - I'm usually shopping angelfish.

I'll go through the RC sponsor list... :D

You are very welcome! I've learned so much from your posts and other folks here this the least I can do. :)

btw--I have 2 tigertail in mine 24g AP and 5 various type in the 75g and must say the tigertail does the best job in sifting sand.

Yeah stay the hell away from those Sea Apples. I had two "blow up" in a 55gal, thankfully they were the only things in the tank but man what a mess!
