How do I connect holding device extension 3000.244?

I suspect I will feel pretty stupid when my question is answered, but as I sit here and stare at extension 3000.244 I cannot figure out how it works.

I have: one suction cup, one plastic plug that inserts into the mouth of the suction cup, one white plastic screw that screws (naturally!) into the plug, and two metal (?) pan head screws approximately 2 1/4" long.

The picture in my Stream 6000 manual (image C on page 17)shows the suction cup stuck to the glass, and one of the long screws stuck through a hole in the holding device (rail) that comes with the Stream 6000 and into the suction cup. However, I have two problems with my attempt to duplicate the image in the manual:

1. The opening in the suction cup is too big for the long screw and it lacks threads.

I could insert the plug with the threaded female opening into the mouth of the suction cup, but the threaded hole is too small for the larger, longer screw that I apparently need to use. It seems to me that the plug and small white plastic screw are only used for the attachment shown in figure B on page 17 of the manual.

2. What keeps the rail from sliding down the screw towards the suction cup?

In short, how do I attach the long screw to the suction cup, and how do I keep the rail parallel to the glass?

Any help, no matter how stupid it makes me feel, is appreciated.

I could simply get a nylon screw and nut from the hardware store, and use them in conjunction with the suction cup to achieve the desired result, but that wouldn't help me understand how extension 3000.244 is supposed to work.

The small nut included in 3000.244 goes inside the suction cup hole. You first install the post that you will mount the stream on the rail with, then you use the small screw and screw the suction cup to the rail, the cupü should be on the thinner side of the rail.

As for the screws, at the top(long groove) you will place the piece which has a horseshoe notch in the top on the inside (deeper portion) of the rail. The other piece with the rubber insert goes on the other side of the trim of the aquarium. The screw that comes through the hole from the inside is the tightening screw and the other screw from the outside is just a final tensioner adjestment.

If you closely follow the standard installation and only substitute the long screws and add the suction cup it makes sense.

Admittedly we are all puzzled here by why this remains so complicated for people but we resolved that we will make a video and make it available on the internet perhaps it is the lack of a 3-D illustration. The 3000.244 instruction does illustrate an Oceanic installation and it was designed almost specifically for this brand.

Roger,
Thanks for the reply. I think we are talking about two different mounting options. I apologize for being less than clear in my initial post.

Your explanation sounds like the mounting procedure for an Oceanic tank (figure B on page 17 of the manual), which I do not have. I have a tank with perimeter bracing (figure C - support for glass top attachment - on page 17). The rail is attached to the edge of the perimeter bracing with the tensioning clamps, and hangs down into the tank, parallel to, and 1.5-2" away from, the side wall of the tank. According to the manual I should be able to use kit 3000.244 to create a bracing arm that extends from the side wall to the bottom of the rail that is [currently] hanging free in the water. Anyway, I've created a home made remedy that will keep the rail/pump stable until I solve The Mystery of Kit 3000.244 :)

Thanks again.

Thanks again, Roger. I now understand my difficulty: neither of the two 3000.244 kits that I received from Marine Depot has a rigid plastic tube.

As far as the bracket assembly is concerned, I have my bracket assembly set up exactly as shown in the picture from photobarry.

I wouldn't worry too much about the confusion in assembling the various mounting options, as the instructions were clear enough for me (I was just missing a piece).

Should I address the missing piece issue with Marine Depot (I need two of the rigid plastic pieces), or should I contact you when you return to the States?

Thanks,
Steve

Roger,
I ordered two more 3000.244 kits from Marine Depot after verifying that they each have the missing part. I now have two incomplete (both missing the rigid plastic piece) kits that I have no use for. I'm willing to send them to you if you have any use for them rather then have them go to waste in a drawer at my home.

That is very nice, I would like them more because I am puzzled and wonder how many are missing this piece. I am sorry for this inconvenience and it is a very nice gesture, if it is not too much trouble I would like to see this.

Roger,
Send me your stateside address via PM or email, and I'll send the two incomplete kits via snail mail. Thanks for all your help.
Steve

P.S. You are bringing my multicontroller with you on the plane, right? ;)

I am coming back empty handed but some are being sent to me this week and the electrician said that next week I would get 25 units which is a substantial number- probably enough to at least catch up with all existing backorders.
