How do I detach a large Kenya tree ?

Hello all,

I'd like to detach my kenya tree from a very large piece of live rock in the center of my tank, then reattaach it to another piece of immovable rock on the bottom left and I have no clue how to do so.

I'm new to reef central and I'm not quite sure how to to upload a photo so If someone could help me with both of these issues I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

WELCOME. I would take a scissor and cut it as close to the rock as you can. Then take it and either

-> rubber band it to the rock
or
-> put a toothpick through the base and rubberband the toothpick to the rock
or
-> lay it on the rock and then put a piece of rock rubble on top of it

Either way, you want to put it in a lower flow to give it time to attach itself.

it won't matter if its open or closed b/c it will close up when you touch it anyways.. You could pinch it inbetween some rocks and it will attach to 1 of the 2

Cut them where ever you want. I have them dropping so much i dont clip them anymore. I usually take a look everyday for evidence of one about to drop and pinch it off with my fingers before it falls off and starts to fly aroud in my tank. Newly cut will attach in a day or two. methods above are good or shove them in a hole somewhere. They start to indent around a fork before they drop. The base where you cut it will even grow back. I have about 5 mother colonies and get a baby every couple days. Id like to get a neon green but hear they grow slower.

Pretty much cut, rip, tear will all work. Then just rubberband where you want it. If you don't want it to grow back where you removed it from squirt some kalk paste on the little stub left.

Will Kenya Trees release any toxins if you cut them with scissors while still in the tank? I have the same problem with a large Kenya right in the front of my tank.

Thanks,

Matt

I just trimmed mine yesterday. Just snip it with a knife or whatever and then rubber band it to a rock and let it sit for about 2-5 days. Real easy to do.

JUst cut it off and use superglue gel and put it on the rock

Super glue probably won't work. With most corals like this, they will slime up and the glue won't stick to them. Rubber bands or pinching between two rocks usually works well.

Interesting tip with the toothpick, I'll have to try that. I also have not had much luck with the gel superglue, just makes a mess.
