I have a frogspawn that is about a XL now. It has about 5 branches and soon to be 6. How can divide these guys out without injuring them?

i just break it at where it branches , at least 1 inch before the head as not to hurt the coral... u can use a set of pliers( the snipping ones) or garden scissors, the ones with he spring....

As I understand it, the only living part of the coral is close to the soft tip. The rest is just calcified skeleton.

Check out my frogspawn guys, these are Large now...

Here is a picture when I have it about a week sine I bought them.

Yea, these guys grow fast under 50/50 36watts Coralife 12inches lighting. My light is only a 4hour period daily. BTW, They are in quarntine about 4months...

qhy quarantine for so long?

My main tank is under construction. Still recovering from nitrate problem that I had before.

Lechee12. Very nice...

Yup, you want to cut the base. I like using my dremel [use safety glasses ... bacteria-coated skelton can fly].
Gloves would be a good idea, too.

Here's the `side cutting bit' and mine ... my wife's picture, keys in hand, ready to take me to the ER.

Here's a little article on it:

These guys have good ideas for using a dremel:

Anthony has great general suggestions here:

On the left column, down a ways, there's a link for a page here:

Or directly:

Best of luck :)

It's a side-cutting bit, actually, on my dremel. The photo is deceiving, as it looks like I'm drilling the coral.

It cuts out skeleton suprisingly well. I'm really holding the tip right at the edge, slowly gouging a deep groove into the coral.

Given it's impossible to get `in there' with a diamond-wheel ... and there's not a huge amount of skeleton to make a mistake on ... I cut most of it out with the side-cutting bit before using a clippers or pliers to break the last bit.

Careful not to damage the heads in process.

Anyway - those links I posted are probably the best sources of info, beyond Anthony's BOCP.
