my tank has been running for 3 months i notice some brown algea on the glass, i was wondering if they're coraline or just normal algea? is coraline algea start up with brown color or are they just straight up purple?
Different shades of pink to purple, sometimes even green or orange. Brown algae on the glas is most usually diatoms algae
Coralline will be difficult to scrape while diatoms are usually just a film you can wipe off.
You have reg algae. This will pass as your tank cycles. Coraline algae is straight purple and encrusts over the rock but can also on the glass. You'll 99.9% see it on the rocks first.
[edit] did not know that it came in more than purple. my bad. LOL
be patient im new to the hobby too and it took mine about a year to stop coming out...cheap live rock that doesnt have any to begin with will be much slower at growing it too.
its not like regular algae...its as hard as rock and hard to scrape off.
so unless its hard its not coraline algae
and to add, it starts to grow in pink, purple, red, orenge, green dots and spread out from there somethimes they have a white rim around the outside of the circle.

so today, i saw a few green algea on the side of my tank, also brown algea too, i used my finger to feel them and try to scrape them off, the brown algea gone easily when i touch them but the green is really hard, but they're not dots liek you said, is it a sign of coraline algea or is it just normal algea?
