how do i keep both sps and softies??

i am about to set up my tank in a couple weeks and am a beginner, if i just keep a lot of distance between the stony corals and soft corals will it be ok? also someone said u need to put carbon in the sump??
anything else i need to know?? can i keep a tank with half sps and half softies??

Put the stonies first in the waterstream, softies second, and run carbon. You can do it, but neither will grow to their greatest capacity. I run stonies, but have some mushrooms [discosomas] and some green star polyps. The zoos didn't like the stonies, so I sold them.

Mind, there is a great range inside these two groups: certain ones are very fussy; and if you want things that wave in the current you can do that either with stonies [frogspawn] or softies [sinularia.] Visit threads that have photos of tanks, and look at softie tanks, and stony tanks, and see what the varieties are.
