How do I kill mushrooms?

Last thing you'd think somebody would ask. Usually we're fighting to keep stuff alive. Not usually mushrooms though. They are like weeds all over my rocks. I have some RIC's that are nice. But these are brown ugly ones. Of course they grow faster than anything else. I thought I had a solution... inject with a needle... KALK solution. I just tried it and that didn't work either. I went through literal hell and took rocks out last year and scraped them off with a screwdriver. Major PIA.. and now they're back all over again.
 
Usually hitting them with kalk should work. Looks like yours are a little more resilient :D As a last case scenario you could let your rock soak in bleach overnight and then rinse off. Of course it will kill everything on there, but including in the massacre will be the mushrooms. Then just get a little piece of LR to help start seeding again.
 
EW.. that is supposed to work. Maybe I should use concentrated KALK, small amounts of course, before it settles out. I put it right in the mouth too.. as best I could.
 
I have used joes juice to kill lots of brown palys I had. It worked great. I just shot it on them and they die pretty quick. I used a metal tip it came with and stabed the stem and injected them. Should work well on shrooms to.
 
You wouldn't want them. They're brown and ugly. A few are frilly and green under the right lights. And they spread like weeds. There's much nicer things to grow.

Never heard of Joe's Juice? I assume it's some sorta algae killer or something.

They're mostly talking about using LYE or Sodium Hydroxide. They're also talking about aiptasia but it's pretty much the same as mushrooms, and both will regrow from remnants.

I read somebody using KALK paste... not sure if that's good to put that in my tank. Most people complain that, with aiptasia at least, Joe's Juice just kills the father and then dozens of babies will be born out of the remnants. I saw somebody else say KALK is good too. I took it out of my ATO so it was probably not strong enough. I should make up my own small dose and use it at full strength.

havent tried joes juice, but i tried aiptaisa-x and it doesnt do crap. all i know is you cant cut them. they just sprout 2-3 heads from leftover pieces.
tagging along to see if anyone has any bright ideas. my tank is over run with red and purple shrooms. i dont even have any space to put new frags.
 
Joes Juice is a aiptasia killer. I beleve its just SUPER conceratated kalk. What you use for top off is no were near strong enough. Mix some up super strong. You want it be white and milky. if you can try to inject it in to the stem of the mushroom. Thats what worked for some weed palys.

Yea. Anybody know about KALK PASTE. I guess I can see how that would work since it would cover up the body of the entire thing and wipe it out so it can't propagate.

Should work. I would cut the head of the mushroom off first so there is less flesh to have to cover. Just dont do too many at a time. The kalk could throw your ph off.
 
I use kalk paste on mushrooms, but only about 1 ml at a time. I find 1 ml is enough for up to about 10 shrooms, depending on their size. I turn off all pumps for about 30 min so the paste has time to sit on the mushroom. The larger shrooms usually need a second or third dose a week or so later.
 
Well, I electrocute them with a device made by Paul B for turning mojanos and aiptasia into snot. Works great.
 
i will honestly take ALL shrooms you guys want to get rid of. i have a softy lps tank and am looking for more shrooms. if you wanna give them away ill pay for shipping! or ill buy them pm please :D

1). Paper towels... u mean you take the rock out and do that? Wouldn't want pieces of towel floating all over since the rock would shred it up.

2). Paul B.. electric device? What is that.
 
lol theyre not cleaning up their frag plugs folks^ these are most likely huge pieces of rock.


i've used kalk paste to kill shrooms and anthelia. works great, same as killing a huge aiptasia.
