how do I make a sump

I used an eshopseshopps overflow. It worked great keeps syphon when power is out. I made my own 3 compartment sump/fuge with a 29 gallon and plexi glass. Glued baffles in With aquarium safe silicon. Took a couple hours. 48 hours for silicone to cure (per mfgrs instructions).

No pics, didn't happen. Basic rule of the forums!

So let's see some pics! We :love2: pics!!

I dont feel its picture worthy.. I did a sloppy job with the silicone :sad2: I have the whole setup complete just needing some alterations on the plumbing but I have a second thread open on that problem

I'll take a functional sump with a sloppy silicone job over an immaculate silicone job on a sump that doesn't work very well. Gotta post pics. It's a rule. Don't want the internet police coming after you, do you? :D

This is all still confusing. I volunteer at a lfs on my days off work and I was looking at their display tank that they have tons of huge pieces of coral and that tank had a sump under it that consisted of a large tank with a plastic bin in it that had holes drilled in it with their heaters and skimmer in there. No live rock or other biological filtration and they said that tank has been setup with that for over 15 years. Sooo honestly I dont know what im going to do with the sump im making. I dont necessarily want it to be so cheap looking but I want a basic sump.

Just put the sump in the cabinet under the 75 gal tank? Seems simple to me.

Bam! Nice job!!

One suggestion. You might want to ditch the bioballs and just replace them with LR rubble. Both will catch detritus but at least the rubble would offer a living space for the micro fauna that could help you with nutrient export or provide treats for your fish!

Yeah, good job. Don't sweat the silicone job. It's not in the display so nobody but you is going to see it.

Just for future reference, before applying silicone you can use painters tape on both sides of where the glass baffle goes (about a 1/2" or so apart) to tape off where you put the silicone. Then after you go over it with your finger, you can pull the tape off while the silicone is still wet and it will leave a clean line.

As long as it works, that's all that really matters.

i was planning on using lr rubble. after the 90 gallon and sump build my pockets are empty and i had some bio balls laying around so i figured what the hell
