How do I move my shrooms

I have a few that are starting to overgrow some zoas and would like move them? Then what is the best way to attach them to a new rock?

To remove from the current rock: Sometimes you can find a gap where the foot is on the rock - slip a blunt object between the rock and foot to "convince" the mushroom to let go.

To attach to a new rock: try using a soft mesh like bridal veil and wrap it around the rock and mushroom - not tight enough to smash the mushroom, but not so loose the mushroom can float around. DO NOT try and use superglue - most mushrooms cannot recover from the chemical burn.

I just finished attaching my mushroom using gravity, hehe. What I mean by that is I put two rocks in a thin plastic cup to weigh down the cup so it wouldn't float around the tank. Then, I simply placed the mushroom on the rock of choice and let it be. I didn't cover the rock and mushroom with bridal mesh period. However, I did place the cup w/ mushroom and rock in a relatively calm area of the tank to prevent the mushroom from floating away. In addition, the cup walls buffered against any current. In conclusion, the water inside the cup was nearly stagnant; I poked several 1/8" holes in the side of the cup to allow some water exchange within the cup.

heres one for ya..depending on the shroom..chip off at the foot an leave a lil piece of rock an superglue{gel}to another rock..

What bigScott means is super glue the small piece of rock to which the mushroom is attached to another rock. DO NOT super glue the mushroom to the rock. The mushroom will attach by itself.

get a sharp woodworking chisel and use it to pear <sp> the rock under it similar to what you normally do with fruits and veggies. the chisel will cut through limestone, etc very easily and it leaves a small piece of rubble attached to the shroom.

relocate and reglue

I have heard of using high flow to get it to detach. I like this idea the most because it seems the least invasive. Chipping away at rock around my shrooms and zoas makes me uncomfortable. How long does it take? I mean from the time I point the power head at the shroom, how long can I expect it to take to detach? I don't want it to come loose while I am not present and have it free floating around my tank.

thats the million dollar question..hehehe.. ill i can say is do it an wait an let us know the progress..i guess it depends on how strong the flow is..

I guess what I mean is should I expect several minutes, hours, days? I want to do it when I have the time to keep an eye on it so it does not end up blowing around my tank all day while I am at work.

I don't believe there is an absolute answer to how long it will take to release. It will depend on the flow, how determined the mushroom is, etc. When I have tried the flow method, I had one that released within a day (it wasn't really happy in that spot anyway) and have had some that remained for weeks or have never released - with the end result of elongated stalks.

Thanks that answers my question. Though I was not looking for an absolute answer I did want to know if it would be a waste of time to stand there and wait for it to come loose so I could scoop it up right away.

Just rearange the rockwork...I mean isn't that most of the fun of owning a RT?

Not unless it all falls down and kills a fish, destroys a coral, and cracks the tank.
