how do I set up a 180g refugium?

I have seen large systems setup and was looking for input on getting my fuge setup. Should i setup a baffle type system or just have a open tank with drain and return?

TIA,

Jeff

I think it would depend on your setup. I would probably gravity feed the drain. Depending on if you are going to use an internal or external return pump would probably depict whether you would want a bulkhead installed or if you put a couple baffles on one end to keep micro-bubbles and debris out. Depending on location you could possibly even gravity feed a bulkhead as the return with no pump.

Maybe some carification will help. The show tank will gravity feed the sump (90g) and the refugium (180g). The refugium is a 180g with an overflow built in which will aid in the gravity feeding of the return area 40-60g tank (sitting between the fuge and the sump), which is also gravity feed from the sump also. The real issue I am pondering, should i have baffles in the refugium to direct the water in a path or just have a open area? Just was wondering if there should/would be any difference between small refugium design and large system design?

TIA,

Jeff

I am still a little unclear on the intended setup, but I would probably go with baffles.

I have 3 fuges set up on my system currently. I am redesinging right now down to 1. I drain with a T from one of my drains into the fuge then on the other end I have 3 drains that drain into my sump.

I have had tons of sucess with pods and macros this way. I currently grow enough macros to feed my 4 tangs constantly and there is even enough to go around to local club members.
